Tanzania is widely known as Africa’s flagship wildlife destination with Africa’s most dramatic wildlife event, the Great Wildebeest Migration spanning both Kenya and Tanzania. However there is much more to Tanzania than this single event. The central, eastern and southern regions are some of Africa’s wildest places. Experience mountains inhabited by chimpanzees, Great Rift Valley lakes and vast plains with an abundance of game. Tanzania is ideal for safari vehicle land-based safaris as well as walking, with private tented and hosted camps along the way.
The Serengeti – The greatest wildlife show on earth! The largest land mammal migration where millions of wildebeest travel with the patterns of the rains seeking green pastures to feed themselves and their newborn calves. These rain patterns are followed my many other animals needing food, and their predators as well. The greatest savannah habitat supporting the most wildlife on earth.
Katavi National Park - This slice of paradise is Tanzania’s third largest national park, created in 1974 and is located in Katavi Region, and forms part of the larger Rukwa eco system. It is a very remote park that is less frequently visited than other Tanzanian national parks. Home to some of the last remaining big herds of elephant and buffalo in Africa. Private and secluded, this untouched wilderness is a ‘need to see’ for first time visitors or those who call Africa home.
Ruaha National Park - The largest of Tanzania's National Parks. The addition of the Usangu Game Reserve and other important wetlands to the park in 2008 increased its size to about 20,226 square kilometres, making it the largest park in East Africa. Home to 10% of the worlds remaining lion population. This vast wild area is sure to touch the senses and provide a feeling of Wild Africa!
Mahale Mountains National Park - located on the western side of Tanzania on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in Kigoma Region. Named after the Mahale Mountains range within the park. It is one of only two protected areas for chimpanzees in the country. (The other is nearby Gombe Stream National Park made famous by the researcher Jane Goodall.) The chimpanzee population in Mahale Mountains National Park is the largest known and due to its size and remoteness. There are no roads or other infrastructure within the park boundaries, and the only way in and out of the park is via boat on the lake.
